New watch
Russian type 1 from the ninteen thirties. Basically a pocket watch with lugs welded on to attach a band to. Curiously, this watch design is American. The Russians bought the old Dueber Hampton watch company, shipped the factory machines to Russia and, with the help of the company's American watchmakers, began making Russia's first watch.

The series isn't over yet
But man I felt bad for Roy Oswalt just now. Has he ever given up five runs in an inning before?

Irritation
The NYC MTA is in rare form this morning. The Manhattan bound E train I am on has been stuck between stations for roughly 30 minutes. The typically useless public service announcements from the train crew tell us of delays due to an "incident" at West 4th street. An incident, what the hell does that mean! Criminals, terrorists, nuke bomb or did someone just plain screw up? I have no clue and neither, it seems, does anyone else on this train. All I know for sure is that I am good and late for work and my feet hurt from standing in this glorified cattle car. God forbid they could just tell us what is really going on. Idiots.

Well its the eighth or ninth day of rain...
My roof gave out and my living room is pretty much ruined. All told though, we were lucky. Northern NJ was flooded badly, much of Long Island lost power and roofs are leaking all over. Even the UN General Assembly had to close from a leaking roof. What amazes me is that the weather folks, who usually overhype every little thing, completely missed this one. The reporting on the severity of this storm was largely after the fact. Not that we could have done a thing anyway. You know the line about how everyone complains about the weather but no one ever does anything. Well....there you go.

Rain in the living room
Sorry about the pic, this is the best the Treo could do in low light. Insurance agent says he's been getting calls all day. Contractor will arrive tomorrow morning to try to shore things up. Funny but I don't remember being warned that today's rain would be exceptionally bad.
